WORDS: 623 — “I said, war, huh (good God, y’all)… What is it good for? Absolutely nothing, just say it again. War (whoa), huh (oh Lord)… What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, listen to me.” – Edwin Starr (1969) (If you need a reminder… go HERE. )
That song echoed across American radio pertaining to a past war that made absolutely no sense. By now everyone has likely heard the news of Russia’s latest contribution of super powers starting a war based entirely on the political agenda of the leaders. Rather than belabor my own opinion.. here’s a few quotes that paints the picture of the idiocy to follow.
From the Russian Dictator…
“To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside – if you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have faced in history,’ Putin said on a television broadcast around 6am Moscow time.
From An (Appalling) American Ex-President…
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.” “He used the word ‘independent’ and ‘we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.’ You gotta say that’s pretty savvy.”
From The Ukrainian President…
“Today I initiated a phone call with the president of the Russian Federation. The result was silence.”
“In particular, it is forbidden for men aged 18-60, Ukraine citizens, to leave the borders of Ukraine,” the statement said. “This regulation will remain in effect for the period of the legal regime of martial law. We ask the citizens to take this information into consideration.”
“According to our information, the enemy marked me as target No. 1, my family, as target No. 2. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state. We have information that enemy sabotage groups have entered Kyiv.”
From The American President…
“Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will bear the consequences,” Sanctions will…. “impose severe cost on the Russian economy, both immediately and over time.”
The new sanctions include export blocks on technology, a centerpiece of Biden’s approach that he said would severely limit Russia’s ability to advance its military and aerospace sector. He also applied sanctions on Russian banks and “corrupt billionaires” and their families who are close to the Kremlin.
“Our forces are not and will not be engaged in the conflict,”
“Our forces are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine but defend our NATO allies and reassure those allies in the east.”
He declared the Russian president’s actions would “end up costing Russia dearly, economically and strategically.”
“I know this is hard and that Americans are already hurting,” he said. “I’ll do everything in my power to limit the pain the American people are feeling at the gas pump.”
The Ukrainians are in the fight for their lives and Americans are worried about the price of gas at the pumps?? How shallow Biden has made us look. Then again, maybe it’s how shallow we’ve become as a country.
All this is shear idiocy.
A Hopeful Solution For The Future…
My significant other tried in her own way to provide an explanation for all this, and a possible remedy for the future to keep this from happening again. “You will note that none of the present leaders in all this are female. To keep this from happening again there should be an international rule that any male leader must have his balls removed in order to contain their testosterone-laden need to compare penis sizes at the expense of human lives.”
I concur.
Doug, sorry but most Americans could care less about Ukraine,,,,your better half is very perceptive…..it is always about whose is biggest…..and we as a country have become that petty…..chuq.
Very petty, chuq… makes me sick… sad… feeling vulnerable as a nation.
Me as well chuq
Huge profit increases for the oil companies and it is ony day two. Highest price ever seen for fuel in the UK .
An interesting insight into Russia’s economy on the tail of that, from a BBC reporter. Russia’s biggest earner is oil. Now the price of their oil has been inflated by the war, and demand for it has also increased.
It is almost certain that massive oil profits will greatly outweigh any financial loss from sanctions, and allow Putin to carry on spending with impunity.
Best wishes, Pete.
That only works if there’s a continued demand. As you well know from past experience there, as we know here, that after every surge in gas prices at the pump demand falls… then the inevitable supply glut.. followed by prices falling down the line. Russia will only be able to sustain those glorious profits if there’s a continued demand at the same rate. That’s not to mention the impact of the fallen ruble because of all this (the worst ever) and global inflation.
One thing about demagogues.. they are generally not micro-managers nor do they do a lot of detail planning, preferring to operate off of impulse and desire. Putin wants Ukraine… the the average Russian on the street can just do his/her patriotic duty and suffer “a bit” for a return to the honor and prestige of the former Soviet Union… ala Putin.
